Frequently Asked Questions…

  • Acupuncture uses ultra-fine needles, much thinner than those used for injections. Most people feel very little. You may notice a slight tingling, warmth or dull ache (known as De Qi), but many clients find the treatment deeply relaxing.
Points on the face can feel slightly more sensitive or “pinchy,” but this is brief and generally well tolerated.

  • Results are cumulative. For cosmetic acupuncture, a course of weekly treatments for 4–6 weeks is recommended, followed by monthly maintenance to support long-term results. Many clients choose to alternate between Signature and Focussed facials for a balance of results, time and cost.

  • Many clients notice an immediate glow and improved skin tone after their first treatment. Longer-term benefits such as improved firmness and reduction in fine lines develop gradually over a course of treatments.

  • There isn’t any downtime. You can return to your normal activities straight away. Occasionally, small bruises may occur, but these are temporary and usually fade quickly.

  • Please arrive well-hydrated and avoid attending on an empty stomach. It’s best to come without make-up where possible and wear loose comfortable clothing.

  • Yes, but we recommend waiting at least 2–4 weeks after Botox or fillers before having acupuncture to ensure optimal results and safety. Areas that have been treated can be avoided during your session while the Botox or filler is still active.

  • Acupuncture can support skin health by improving circulation and addressing underlying imbalances. For active breakouts, we may adapt your treatment and recommend starting with the Targeted Facial, which excludes Gua Sha and cupping to avoid further irritation.

  • Some acupuncture treatments are not suitable during pregnancy, particularly cosmetic treatments. Please get in touch to discuss safe options.

  • Most people feel calm, relaxed, and more grounded. Some may feel slightly tired, so it’s best to take it easy for the rest of the day.

  • Cosmetic acupuncture works by supporting the flow of Qi (energy) and blood to improve circulation and restore balance within the body. By selecting specific points on the face and body, treatment addresses not only the skin, but any underlying imbalances that may be contributing to skin concerns.

From a modern perspective, acupuncture creates gentle micro-stimulation in the skin, encouraging collagen production, improving circulation, and supporting the skin’s natural repair processes.

Most people feel relaxed and calm after treatment, however some mild, temporary side effects can occur:

    • Small bruises at needle sites
    • Slight redness or sensitivity on the skin
    • Temporary tiredness or light-headedness
    • Mild soreness or heaviness around treated areas

These effects are normal and typically settle within a few hours to a few days.

To minimise the chance of bruising, it’s best to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and vigorous exercise around your appointment, and follow the aftercare advice provided.

  • Your safety always comes first, so there are a few situations where facial acupuncture may not be suitable, or where I may need to adapt your treatment.

I may not be able to treat if you have:

    • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or epilepsy

    • Recent major surgery, stroke, or heart conditions

    • Active cancer (unless medically approved)

    • Suffer with regular migraines or headaches

    • Are taking blood-thinning or photosensitive medication

    • Diabetes, slower healing or blood clotting disorders

    • Active acne (I may adjust your treatment plan)
